I hope this finds you all doing well. The purpose of this message is to formally invite you to Choral Leadership Day at Grand Island Northwest on Sept. 4th and at Norfolk Senior High on Sept. 5th. If you are like me, I am always looking for ways to help my choral leadership (section leaders, choir board, emerging leaders, dance captains, etc.) improve their leadership skills. So, I am putting together a day in which we learn how to run a sectional, how to lead your peers, and how to develop, or hone your own leadership skills. AND it is all geared for high school choral students!!
Paul Gulsvig, Dina Else, Neal Schnoor, and Fritz Mountford will be our presenters this year. They will be sharing their ideas on recruiting, keeping kids in choir, how to run your own sectionals, and being the best “you” you can be. Neal Schnoor, a Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Executive Affairs-UNK, and will be doing an interactive presentation on leadership skills and how to develop them with in yourself and your choir. Fritz Mountford, Director of Choirs for Hastings College, will be teaching us about how different students learn and therefore how you must change how you teach and lead. Dina Else Voice Instructor and Vocal Clinician from Des Moines, IA, will be presenting her “Key Concepts” for the voice and choral singing, and Paul Gulsvig from Onalaska, WI will be inspiring us with his always motivational presentations. Each of them will be dealing with the above topics, plus a host of others.
The day will run from 9:00 a.m-.3:00 p.m. in the theater at Northwest and Norfolk. It can be a select group of choir students, or some schools have brought their whole choir. The cost will be 30.00 per student, with the directors being free.This does not include any meals.
