Greetings, NCDA members!
First off I would like to introduce myself: my name is Kim Lomax. I direct the Vocal Jazz Ensemble at UNO, and as of April 15, will be trying to fill the very large shoes of Fred Ritter as your State-level Vocal Jazz R&S Chair while Fred moves up to serve as our Regional Chair.
I am very excited about the new addition to the 2014 NCACDA Conference in Des Moines – the Vocal Jazz Experience Day – and want to share with you what plans are in the making, as well as encourage all Vocal Jazz Ensemble directors to submit audition tapes. This festival will bring together vocal jazz groups from the emerging high school, established high school, and collegiate level programs from every state in the North Central ACDA Division to learn from our guest clinician, KIRK MARCY, and each other. The non-competitive format encourages everyone’s participation, regardless of their vocal jazz experience or size of school, to grow together in their musicianship skills and in vocal jazz technique through multiple performance and learning opportunities, secondary clinics, break-out sessions, and an evening concert that will feature a selected group from each state.
The deadline for your submission is fast approaching: May 1. I highly encourage every Vocal Jazz Ensemble director to submit a recording. It is sure to be a tremendous learning opportunity for you and for your students!
You will find the application form along with the details regarding specific requirements of the recording on the attached form. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to be in touch. I will do my best to get you an answer ASAP.
I look forward to meeting and working you all!
