Singing Youth of Nebraska Honor Choir

The Nebraska Choral Director’s Association is sponsoring the eighth annual Singing Youth Of Nebraska Honor Choir for students in grades 7-9. This event will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at The Tassel in Holdrege. I am very pleased to announce that Randy Pagel will be the guest conductor. He has planned a varied and exciting concert for everyone to participate in.

The 120 most gifted seventh, eighth and ninth grade singers from across the state will be selected to participate in this choir. The sponsoring teacher must be a current member of the Nebraska Choral Directors Association. You may download the or visit ACDA.org to join online.

PLEASE FOLLOW AUDITION PROCEDURES CAREFULLY. Your very best and brightest singers should be represented in the audition tapes/cds and materials. Each director is limited to auditioning a maximum of 12 high quality singers. Please do not feel you must send 12 tapes. Singers must be able to sing “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee” acappella in the correct key and stay in that key to even be considered. Please see the accompanying audition form for the specific requirements. There is also an excerpt the singers are to prepare. A downloadable accompaniment is available.

The deadline for this audition is particularly important. Please note: complete audition materials are to be postmarked no later then FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23. Materials received after this postmark deadline will not be considered. This deadline also includes the $5.00 audition fee per student. Tapes/cds will not be accepted if the audition fee does not accompany them. Each audition must be on a separate tape/cd. Please send audition materials to: Jodie Liess, P.O. Box 103, Cambridge, NE 69022.

Directors will be notified of audition results by mid-November. This will allow directors attending the NMEA convention in Lincoln to pick up their music while in Lincoln. There will be $30.00 fee for those accepted to the choir. This fee includes a t-shirt and snack and will be due at the time of notification.

I hope you will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to work with a great master teacher and composer.
